Radiohead!



Οι Radiohead είναι ένα Βρετανικό συγκρότημα από την Οξφόρδη της Αγγλίας. Η μουσική τους γενικά χαρακτηρίζεται ως alternative rock αλλά ο ήχος τους είναι επηρεασμένος από πολλά άλλα μουσικά είδη.

Αποτελούνται από πέντε μέλη, τους Thom Yorke (φωνητικά, κιθάρα, πιάνο), Jonny Greenwood (κιθάρα, πλήκτρα, διάφορα), Ed O'Brien (κιθάρα, δεύτερα φωνητικά, κρουστά), Colin Greenwood (μπάσο και πλήκτρα), Phil Selway (ντράμς και κρουστά), όλοι τους σχολικοί φίλοι.



Οι Radiohead δημιουργήθηκαν το 1986, με ακριβώς την ίδια σύνθεση που έχουν μέχρι σήμερα. Τα μέλη του συγκροτήματος ήταν συμμαθητές στο δημόσιο σχολείο αρρένων Abingdon School, στα προάστια της πόλης της Οξφόρδης. Η ενασχόλησή τους με τη μουσική οδήγησε στη δημιουργία ενός συγκροτήματος, αρχικά με τον τίτλο On A Friday, το οποίο πραγματοποίησε την πρώτη του δημόσια εμφάνιση, το Σεπτέμβριο του 1986 στην Οξφόρδη. Η δραστηριότητα του συγκροτήματος περιορίστηκε σημαντικά, την περίοδο που τα μέλη του φοιτούσαν στο πανεπιστήμιο και επαναεμφανίστηκε στο προσκήνιο το 1991, τόσο μέσα από ζωντανές εμφανίσεις όσο και μέσα από την κυκλοφορία demo ηχογραφήσεων (γνωστές ως Manic Hedgehog Demo). H δημοτικότητα των On A Friday σταδιακά αυξήθηκε, γεγονός που οδήγησε στην εμφάνισή τους στο πρωτοσέλιδο του τοπικού μουσικού περιοδικού Curfew[1], αλλά και στο ενδιαφέρον δισκογραφικών εταιρειών. Την ίδια περίοδο, το συγκρότημα υπέγραψε συμβόλαιο με την EMI, που προέβλεπε την κυκλοφορία έξι άλμπουμ, ενώ παράλληλα μετονομάστηκε, κατόπιν εντολής της δισκογραφικής τους εταιρείας. Το όνομα Radiohead προήλθε από το ομώνυμο τραγούδι των Talking Heads, που περιέχεται στον δίσκο True Stories.
