Muddy Waters (Electric blues, Chicago blues, Βlues rock)

O Muddy Waters (πραγματικό όνομα McKinley Morganfield), γεννήθηκε στις 4 Απριλίου 1915 στο Rolling Fork του Μισισιπί και πέθανε στις 30 Απριλίου 1983 στο Σικάγο. Επηρεασμένος από τους δίσκους που είχε ηχογραφήσει ο Robert Johnson τη δεκαετία του ΄30, έπαιζε ακουστικά blues στην περιοχή του Δέλτα, όπου για πρώτη φορά τον ηχογράφησε ο Alan Lomax το 1942. Αφού μετοίκησε στο Σικάγο το 1943, μεταπήδησε στον ηλεκτρικό ήχο και συνεισέφερε στην επανάσταση των blues της πόλης ηχογραφώντας στις ετικέτες Chess και Aristocrat. Τραγούδια του όπως τα "Rollin' Stone", "I Can΄t Be Satisfied" και "Mannish Boy" όρισαν το blues στιλ του Σικάγο.

O Waters υπήρξε επίσης ο κύριος ερμηνευτής των τραγουδιών του Willie Dixon, όπως τα "Hoochie Coochie Man" και "Got My Mojo Working". Στο συγκρότημά του έπαιζαν μπλουζίστες σπουδαίοι όσο οι Little Walter, Jimmy Rogers, Junior Wells, James Cotton και Buddy Guy. Αφού άφησε την Chess, ο Waters γνώρισε επιτυχία με αρκετά άλμπουμ σε παραγωγή του Johnny Winter. Αντιπροσωπευτικό άλμπουμ: "The Father Of Chicago Blues" (συλλογή Blues Encore, 1989).

Το 2004 ο Muddy Waters ήταν 17ος στην λίστα του περιοδικού Rolling Stone με τους 100 καλύτερους καλλιτέχνες όλων των εποχών.
