The Rolling Stones (Rock, rock and roll, Blues)

Οι Rolling Stones είναι ένα από τα σημαντικότερα βρετανικά ροκ συγκροτήματα που έγινε δημοφιλές κατά τη διάρκεια της "βρετανικής εισβολής" στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του '60. Το είδος τους βασίζεται στο ροκ & ρολ. To συγκρότημα δημιουργήθηκε στο Λονδίνο το 1962 από τον αρχικό ηγέτη Brian Jones, αλλά τελικά επικράτησε η συνεργασία του τραγουδιστή Mick Jagger και του κιθαρίστα Keith Richards οι οποίοι συνέθεταν στίχους και τραγούδια. Ο πιανίστας Ian Stewart, ο τυμπανιστής Τσάρλυ Watts και ο μπασίστας Bill Wyman συμπλήρωσαν τα μεταγενέστερα μέλη του συγκροτήματος. Ο Ian Stewart απομακρύθηκε ως επίσημο μέλος του συγκρότηματος το 1963 αλλά συνέχισε να συνεργάζεται με τη μπαντα ως οδικός διευθυντής και πιανίστας μέχρι το θάνατό του το 1985.

Οι πρώτες μουσικές συλλογές της μπάντας ήταν κυρίως covers αμερικανικών μπλουζ και των R&B τραγουδιών. Το κομμάτι, "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", καθιέρωσε τους Stones ως την πρώτη εκτέλεση rock & roll. Αρχίζοντας με την μουσική συλλογή "Aftermath" το 1966 , τα τραγούδια του Jagger και του Richards, που βοηθήθησαν τον μουσικό πειραματισμό του Jones, επέκτειναν την πάντα παρούσα υφολογική ευελιξία τους. Ο Jones απεβίωσε το 1969 αμέσως μετά από την πυρκαγιά από τη ζώνη και αντικαταστάθηκε από Mick Taylor. Το συγκρότημα έχει στο ενεργητικό του 55 μουσικές συλλογές και είχε φτάσει στην κορυφή των βρετανικών και αμερικάνικων 10 κορυφαίων κομματιών 32 φορές. Έχουν πωλήσει περισσότερα από 200 εκατομμύρια μουσικές συλλογές παγκοσμίως. To Sticky Fingers του 1971 διαδέχθηκαν 8 διαδοχικές μουσικές συλλογές που έφτασαν στο Νο.1 στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες. Το 1989 οι Rolling Stones εντάχθηκαν στο αμερικανικο Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, και το 2004 πήραν την 4η θέση στους 100 μεγαλύτερους καλλιτέχνες όλων των εποχών του περιοδικού Rolling Stone. Έχουν την 2η θέση στους καλλιτέχνες όλων των εποχών στο Acclaimedmusic.net. Η πιο πρόσφατη μουσική συλλογή τους, A Bigger Bang, κυκλοφόρησε το 2005 και συνοδεύθηκε από τις υψηλότερης συνολικής είσπραξης συναυλίες στην ιστορία, οι οποίες διήρκεσαν μέχρι τα τέλη του καλοκαιριού του 2007.
